Building a cheap bike

Was looking at frames on Planet X website and saw they were selling a frame for £50 and got me thinking - what's the cheapest you think is possible to build up a full new bike?

Pair of Shimano R501 wheels go for around £70, so what would you expect to pay for a cheap groupo and finishing kit?

If its all new - the groupset would be the biggest cost. Think Sora is around £200.

    Sora groupset <£200.
    Tyres / inner tubes £25.
    Seatpost £10 - 15.
    Saddle £15.
    Stem £10 -15.
    Handlebar £10 - 15.
    Bartape £5.

It's going to be a bit of mish-mash but if you shop around and don't care what stuff you buy there are decent bargains.

You'll probably want some forks with that unless you're really good at wheelies. In which case you can ditch one wheel, tyre & brake calliper.

I did the same thing when I bagged a CR1-SL frameset then wondered how cheaply I could get it on the road. Used Tiagra groupset from a fellow forumite, R501 wheels and cheapest Deda seatpost, bars and stem from Ribble, Charge Spoon I had hanging on a nail in the garage, bit of bar tape and some wired Rubinos. Oh, and some M520 pedals. Just over £300 I think, which made the whole bike £800. Certainly couldn't have bought the bike complete for that.
