What do folks recommend for safely securing my beloved best bike in/to our garage? Can either go for a wall mounted (brick) or floor mounted (concrete) anchor.

It's just a hill. Get over it.

Nice people - easy to deal with and are passionate about heavy lumps of metal!

A floor mounted anchor is always going to be the most secure if you can do it.

I got a ground anchor and chain from a motorbike shop. The anchor was by Oxford I think.

...did this in my shed to satisfy insurance...
cut through the wooden floor (easy bit!)
chiselled out a decent hole in the concrete pad the shed sits on (nightmare!)
..then concreted in a ground anchor (an Oxford Terra Force) and keep the bike secured with a heavy duty motor cycle chain..

Mine are locked to my lathes cast Iron base, it weighs just under a tonne so if they manage to move it then they've made enough effort that nothing would stop them.

Anchor and cold hardened 1.5meter chain thro frame/rear wheel..with quality s/steel padlock

To be honest if they get through it, they are clearly determined thieves..

What sort of price are you all paying in general for a decent set up from motorcycle shops for example?

  • I use a ground anchor and Almax Immobiliser IV chain and Squire lock.
Have the same for my motorbike and they are great.

I couldn't really drill into the floor in my garage and so made up a concrete beam about a foot in cross section and 5 foot long with a couple of through holes (putting piping through the mould before you pour the concrete is easier than trying to drill it afterwards) and then just chain the bikes to that.

You could do something similar by filling a bin etc with concrete (if you have the space).

Good job my garage is a tip then, can hardly move in there no chance of getting some massive bolt croppers in! Maybe that's what I tell SWMBO when she moans next.

Guess I won't be going to the expense of a big chain any time soon then
