The report I read of the GP Industria said Adam Yates isn't the first Australian (!) winner of this race (because in 1989 Eddy Salas was successful). Yates needs to get his PR improved!
The report said an earlier 30-strong break with a lead up to 3-30 was caught on the first climb to San Baronto. A new break of 30-odd formed, but they weren't harmonising well, thus allowing another 10 riders to join them. The final first three broke away from this 40-strong peloton on the last climb (so the San Baronto climb second time around).
Weening then won the next day, after Yates attacked from a small group to draw out the others while Weening rode their slipstream then attacked for the win with 3km to go.
The Giro della Toscana report I saw said as you describe and this time had that Yates was British!

Jerome Baugnies did well in both races too – 4th in the GP Industria, 2nd in the Giro Toscana.

Haha, I hope the reports were not on the same site...they need to sort that out if so.

I saw your thread when it was posted, but only this afternoon have I finished watching Rai Sport 2's coverage.
As yet, I haven't found any links to these on the net. :(

The TDF weather hit Saturday's race with some torrential rain.
Made the final descent a bit dicey.
Yates bossed the lead group of 3.
David Formolo tried to drop him and Bongiorno, having done the lion's share of the work.
Got rid of BG, but couldn't shift Yates, who won the slightly uphill sprint, easily.
    David Formolo looks about 12!

Toscana: He and Weening basically worked the whole race over on successive laps, hitting them each time
    they got to the climb.

Yates got away early on the last circuit, but was reeled in as the crested the climb, with 3kms or so to go.
The other 2 ended up in an Orica sandwich and Weening jumped from the rear, with about 1500 metres to go.
