I am a bit of a novice looking to upgrade. At present I am considering

A new Felt 95

OR

A second hand specialized

Any help would be appreciated

Well yes similar, but would like to know how the specialized compares with the felt.

Specialized Allez is a worthwhile upgrade from your Carrera, but that Allez is 5 years old and might need stuff like chainrings and bottom brackets replacing (a few in our club at that age have had those sort of replacements on their Allez'.) I'd go for the new Felt as it'll feel faster just 'cos it's new! Ideally if you could stretch to £800+ that would be a better idea as you'll start to get bikes that have better groupsets and lighter wheels etc.

Yeah I am really tempted to go for the Felt, however speaking to a mate today he suggested going for a second hand bike as you can get much better value.

I almost bid on this one for example

If buying second hand, you need to be able to satisfy yourself about the safety of a bike, and be OK researching that a bike is what it claims to be. You will also need to be able to verify if a bike is likely to be stolen or legitimate.

I would never buy a bike privately unseen.
