My new cervelo unfortunately comes with r501 wheels. Are ultegra 6700 better? If yes why/how? Are the much lighter or should I just keep looking for some c24's or similar

6700 are C24s without the bling.

My 501s are great. The Ultegras will be better but IMO won't make any significant difference. Had elites and handbuilt wheels and within reason a wheel is a wheel but everyone needs to go on their own journey with these things.

Yes, 'cos they're road tubeless. Probably not much in it otherwise.
6700 has been superseded by the 11-speed 6800.
  • So am I waisting my money buying them? Should I put my money into new pedals instead. Just don't want the bike to ride poor straight out of the box. I just thought the shimano a would be crap

Ultegra 6700 are 250g lighter than your R501s and have a better quality hub. They were £350rrp new when they first came out and are well regarded as a smooth rolling wheelset. I disagree with the guys above and am saying that you will feel a small difference over the R501s as the Ultegras will spin up quicker. Personally I'd have the C24s you mentioned but whatever happens you really cannot have a Cervelo with R501 wheels on it ... it's just wrong!!

I don't think any new Cervelo is going to 'ride poor' out of the box and Shimano don't make crap. I'd leave your money in your pocket, ride it a bit and get a feel for what would make it nicer.
  • Thanks for the replies. I'll do exactly That

the Ultegra wheelset is very good value for money, they roll very well and handle just fine. R501's are excellent training wheels (but are very heavy!). Shimano don't do bad wheels but the more you spend the lighter they get (and they get better features).

having said that you could go handbuilt for around £300 and get a set of wheels with ultegra hubs, or PMP or Hope, and they'd be more user servicable, and pretty similar in terms of specs.
