I'm a fairly keen runner(41 min 10k plus half and full marathons) and am looking to get into cycling possibly train for an iron man eventually so will be doing mainly longer slower rides. What sort of money should I be looking to spend on my first bike, not really sure if I will like it or not. Have tried a giant defy 1 and liked the feel.
I also might be trying a trek emonda but will they be anymore beneficial than say a felt f85 for £599. I appreciate this has probably been asked a lot so apologies.
Many thanks

If you're looking to "get into cycling" I would buy a cheap (ish) 2nd hand bike for a couple of hundred quid.
There are plenty bikes out there being sold by people who were looking to "get into cycling", spent a bucket load, found out is wasn't as easy as Wiggins made it look, left it to stagnate in the 2nd garage, then chose to get rid of it. There are bargains to be had.
If you like it, then flog the 2nd hand bike and buy something a bit nicer.0 -
Thanks for the advice guys I have found a giant defy 2 in my size for 639 delivered anything better for the money, they are also knocking 100 quid off if I spend 800 so would buy my helmet, tubes ect0

That's a good price for a brand new 10 speed compact road bike. I bought a similar bike last year and it has been good for long rides and shorter quicker rides.0
