I'm staying in Snowdonia over the weekend near Trawsfynnyd. Anyone have a link to a decent 30-40 miles route in that area?

One suggestion, if you use Strava, do a segment search for the area, then look at the leaderboards, click on one of the times set and look at the route?Trainer Road Blog: https://hitthesweetspot.home.blog/

use ridewithgps.com and enter the postcode where your staying and the distance and you should get a stack of routes in return for download to your gps or print out the route map0

Its too close to coed y brenin to get anything through ripewithgps, its just coming back with mtb stuff. I'll have a hunt on strava.
Failing all, i'll just go exploring!0 -
Looking at Google maps, there doesn't look to be too much in the way of road round there anyway.
It's mostly the A470 and the A4212. I'm guessing the reason for this is the mountains either side.
What about heading eastwards to Bala, round the lake and then back again? It won't let you down.0 -
I use bikehike.co.uk and Google streetview when plotting routes in unchartered territory.
Use streetview to assess if the smaller roads are rideable and not dirt tracks.
Working at the Power Station by chance? Can't be much left to do there now....0 -
Years since i have done it but take the bike to Beddgelert and do a loop up to Carnarfon and back through Llanberis. Its essentially a big loop of Snowdon but pretty stunningLife isnt like a box of chocolates, its like a bag of pic n mix.0

Family have a log cabin in the holiday village, thought it'd be a good opportunity to get some hills in!
I'll go behind the holiday Village toward Bala and back, looks pretty lumpy0 -
ridewithgps came back with 139 rides starting within 5 miles of coed y brenin. If you put the distance filter to over 30 miles you'll weed out nearly all the mtb rides in that area. Anyway good luck its a stunning area and you won't go far wrong heading in most directions..0

To be honest just plan a loop heading north and coming back. You'll hit some lovely climbs, beautiful views etc. Any 40 mile loop you map will be special in this area. If you want anything specific like hitting some big hills in that 40 miles then you can head up to Ffestiniog on the B4391, head towards Betws y Coed on B4407 then either follow it right back around for another big climb and shorter or ride from Betws to Capel Curig, down to Beddgelert on A4086 and back down to Trwasfynydd. The bonus of the Capel Curig to Beddgelert route is you can hook a quick right and head up Pen a Pass from the other side and back down the way you came just to tick it off the list.
If you want to squish in a lot of climbs you can extend your route to about 60 miles and really get some metres in!0 -

Or go straight over the top to Llanberis, and then come back over it. Best of both.0 -

There is that but then where do you stop. Once in Llanberis it'd only be another 15 or so miles to head up to the top of Marchlyn Mawr and back, then back up the Pass and home hehe. Maybe loop around to Penygroes on his way back down from Marchlyn and do Drws y Coed too. Might as well do the Etape course but start at his end. I'm sure the family will understand0 -
If your staying in Trawsfynydd you must ride the Stwlan Dam only a short distance away. Its a private road to the Dam, therefore traffic free and a really good climb with great views at the top.

I've created a well recommended loop for you.

I may well give that one a go Simon cheers. Around the back over to Bala is quite tempting too!0
