Garmin HRM unit storage

Just tested out my new Garmin Edge 810 + HRM + Cadence monitor tonight - It's great; highly recommended.

Just one question.. The HRM unit, what's the best way to store it, I.E, are you meant to remove the plastic module from the connectors, or leave it clipped on? Main reason I ask is that there isn't an on/off button, so don't want it to be using battery constantly, or does it only come on when it detects a heart rate?

Here's my casual after work ride with it if anyone is interested: http://www.strava.com/activities/169987520

Just take it off your body and put it somewhere safe - battery lasts yonks - not changed mine in over 2 years so far

I remove mine from my chest and let my m( .Y. )bs stop wobbling then hang the strap over the brake hoods
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

I only remove mine when the strap goes in the washing machine.

Well that's enough of a consensus for me - thanks all!

I always unclip mine as I also worried about battery issues, and so far it's 4 years old and going strong. I unclip it after every ride.
