First road bike: Ride to work or triban?

I'm interested in getting into cycling and want to buy my first proper road bike. I've just started a placement where I can use the ride to work scheme with evans. I'm not 100% sure how this works and my salary is quite low so I won't be paying much tax. I was considering buying a triban bike from decathlon before I heard about this and was just wondering if anyone had any advice, are the branded bikes worth getting with the discount? Or would a triban be better for a complete beginner?

Which Triban were you thinking of?
Never seen a red T3 but the white one is basic and very heavy.
They are also triples which you may or may not want.

If you go down the Evans route you need to be looking at £5-600 bikes really.
Some have big discounts so with your extra tax saving and paying off interest free over the year I would say thats the way to go.

I would probably go for the triban 500se which is £380

From Evans I took a trek 1.2c for a test ride which retails for £700 and am also considering an allez.

Any thoughts on the best option to go with?

I know of someone who, using the red Triban 3, racked up 3,500 miles and 50+ strava KOMs...

Plus, the websites Engrish is hilarious.
