Front brake hose route - does this look right?

Guys,
Picked up my new bike last night - all good with it, nothing fell off or not tightened.
A couple of people have commented though that the front brake hose route looks wrong.

I've looked and can't seem to see how it could have been done differently.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

    It's correct either way.

I prefer to run it inboard so less chance of it snagging.

Route the cable inside the fork leg... but other than that it looks fine.

You should see mine... cable hell! Too lazy to chop them though :)

    Thanks guys.
Isn't there more chance of it snagging a spoke if routed on the inside?

Nope, it doesn't move when cable tied.
  • My Trek Cobia brake line looks just the same. It jarred when I first saw it but I've grown accustomed to it.

    Thanks again guys.
Might see how it looks if i route it on the inside.
If I get chance I'll drop the caliper off and swap it round.

Best to do the lever if you can take that straight off.

I used to route my front brake hose inside the fork leg as that's what the little nodules on the fork crown routed the hose to, however my new Pikes routing places the hose outside of the fork leg, so I'd say as long as its secure with not too much loop its ok either way.

Routing down the inside of the leg can also protect the hose from crash damage if you drop the bike on the non-drive side, and as Chunkers says, it won't snag the spokes although you will probably end up with a bit more hose flapping about above the little hose clamp on the fork...

Agreed the routing is fine but could be improved as suggested but maybe lose the toe clips or get some better pedals.

Toe clips have gone - didn't have a small enough spanner on me last night - photo was taken about an hour after I picked it up.
Pedals are wellgo metal platform - don't think the studs come out though. Was thinking of some superstar nanos.

Bike frames are very US-centric (or Euro-centric) in terms of cablestop and hose guide placement, even frames designed in the UK for the UK market. This applies to components too.

If the LH lever controls the front brake then use the hose clip at the front of the left fork leg and route the hose inside the leg - not outside as your picture shows.

If the RH lever controls the front brake (ie UK or "moto" setup) then route the hose around the head tube and down the back of the left fork leg.

If it's in the realm of your control (and brake hoses are) then make a neat job of it.

Thanks, you've solved a mystery. I was looking at mine again yesterday and the front brake hose does look wrong. Now I know why and it's now in the category of things that have been seen which can't be unseen........off to Google how to shorten hoses/bleen brakes

I have both Shimano Saints and Nanos - prefer the latter - both are fine.
