Is there ment to be a bung inside this?

When i die I just hope the wife doesn't sell my stuff for what I told her I paid for it other wise someone will be getting a mega deal!!!

    Doesn't look like it.

    Tighten the bolt, the wedge pulls up and expands the split tube.

    Do you mean a star shaped bung like this?

    The expanding wedge is used instead of one of those

    It's a carbon tube so doubt a star nut should be in it I just thought there should be something in the tube

  • There doesn't need to be - the top cap is chamfered which means it recesses into the tube to expand it when tightened.

    It's a standard looking expander bung. Drop into steerer tube, tighten the screw to the specified torque to set the bung. Then preload the headset with the top cap as you normally would.

    If the bung has been overly loosened then it won't want to tighten. If that's the case, just tighten it outside the steerer until there's just a little friction when fitting it inside the tube.

    And the top part in the picture shouldn't be the top cap.
