Any suggestions? Seem to be a fairly bewildering choice of helmets at that kind of price. any to avoid? any to definitely shortlist?
your advice is much appreciated, as I'm going round in circles!

The first thing is finding something that fits well - that will at least cut your choices in half. Then you need to decide what aspects are important to you - I love my Giro Aeon because it's so light and well-ventilated. Then look for great discounts (I bought the Aeon half price) - then it comes down to aestheticsROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0

As above, what fits your head is most important. I bought a Kask Mojito for £110 as it fitted my head really well, easily the most comfortable lid I've had, highly recommend it if it fits you.0

+1 I picked up this lid and haven't looked back. really comfy and pretty light, rarely notice it on and a far cry from my old Giro lid.0 -

I kinda doubt the Giro lid fitted you properly. I find Giro lids fit my head like a glove (so to speak - obviously not literally like a glove ) whereas I tried the Mojito and, whilst it was nice, it was a hopeless shape for my head. I kinda doubt, if one fits, that the other will. That's why it's so important to try at least a brand of lid on. Bell (both cycling and motorsport) and Giro work for me and Spesh and Kask just don't.ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0 -

Of course, the really weird thing is that for me, Giro, Kask and Specialized do work but Bell doesn't. So you can't say that if Giro fits, Bell will also. Or that if Kask fits, Giro won't. It probably doesn't even work within brands (though I would say that the Kask K50 and Mojito are very similar shapes to each other as I have both and can barely tell the difference).Faster than a tent.......0 -

I'm genuinely surprised that both Giro and Kask fit. Maybe they both are acceptable fits for you and one is perfect for me and the other not short of terrible. All Giro models I've tried (I own 4 different models) fit equally well. It's probably true to say that not all helmets will fit a particular individual.ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0 -

The Kask is perfect and the Giro (a rather cheap one) very good (as it happens, I found the Ionos a perfect fit but couldn't bring myself to spend that much money on a helmet that weighed more than a Ford Fiesta). I think it is often less about the basic shape of the helmet (the padding can deal with a lot of that) but where the vents aren't (ie where the polystyrene is). Being bald, I find that certain helmets simply have the polystyrene in the wrong place and that is what makes them not work - I can feel a particular part of the helmet pressing on my head.
I also found Catlike to be very comfortable whilst Met didn't work at all.Faster than a tent.......0 -
The specialized propero II is excellent. And as a bonus its significantly less than £100.0
