Taunton to Cardiff Sustrans routes 26 & 410

Hi,
I'm planning to cycle from Taunton to Cardiff on saturday and was thinking of following the sustrans routes to make navigation a bit easier. I'm familiar with the Welsh side of things, but not the English side. The vague plan was to get myself as far as Winscombe, then hook up with route 26, which joins with 410 (the Avon cycleway) and onto route 4 to Newport, then the Marshfield flats into Cardiff.
Has anyone had any recent experience of these routes? Are they reasonable for a hybrid with panniers?
