Hi all,

I am starting this thread as I am in need of bike parts to replace a load that were stolen from my bike. Bizrrely my bike was stolen a couple months ago, stripped of everything but the saddle, wheels, frame, cassette, pedals, brake levers and handle bars.

I am now in a situation where I am trying to buy the parts online, or find second hand parts for sale, and rebuild the bike myself (with the help of a bike savvy friend).

If anyone knows where in Manchester is a good place to get hold of cheap (but working) parts then it would be great to hear from you. I don't have the money to take it to a shop for all the parts and fitting so am looking at the next best solution!

Thanks in advance.

Best
Dom

They nicked the air from the tyres?!

Sounds like just the derailleurs, crankset and bar tape are missing?

Your best bets are probably the parts for sale section here and eBay. Depending upon what you need, some parts are not that expensive new.

Wouldn't it be easier to say what parts are missing?

Ebay is probably your best friend.

Probably yes. Got the air in my tyres so luckily we can rule that one out.

I'm missing derailieurs, crankset & brake callipers. I'm not a bike expert at all but from what I've looked into crankset is what is going cost most. If crank was a 52/42 presumably this needs to stay the same? If i found a 52/42/30 would that still work? And are crank fittings universal - i.e. I have a 5 prong attachment on pedal arm will this fit all 52/42 sizes?

Differing standards for cranks. There's the BB to consider - BB30 and GXP are most common, but there are others. I am not sure what you mean by five prong - do you mean where the bolts are for the chainwheels? like this has five bolts? If you just get a complete crankset that doesn't really matter,

Replacing a double with a triple can be awkward unless you also get a triple front mech and shifter.

50/42 sounds a little unusual, but this is also an opportunity to change if you wanted - move to either a standard double or compact.
