the plan is to spend as little as possible to take this back to the road next summer:
a bottom bracket
cables/ outers
chain
i have a nice (unstickered) pair of 38mm carbon clinchers which i will pop in when needed, and want to fit a brown "leather look" saddle and brown bar tape. this should give a nice plain look of old v new.
how does that sound? i was hoping to keep the budget down to <£150.
does anyone out there still ride these?0 -
Very nice.
I remember I loved the look of these when they were out. Did they do a green one?
It's very very nice, looks in good nick too, and plans sound good.0 -
yes, i think they did a green one and a friend has a yellow one too. from what i'm told, one of the local bike shops bought all the old stock back then and patched together bikes in various mixes of components. sadly the shop is no more now. (bike dock)
the bar tape and saddle, both in brown have been ordered and i'll aquire the chain/ cables from my lbs, maybe tomorrow. i should have it done in a couple of weeks max, and i'll not worry about the bb unless really needed. might grease the headset this weekend.
the odd blue/black/brown colour scheme might just work.0 -
I love this. My neighbour has a couple of late 90's mtb's. They were a great brandMadone 4.9 2014

Well cool - top work that man
Aesthetically it will look better with a slightly raised saddle and lowered 'bars, but if that doesn't work position wise ....... Fuggit and do it anyway as it will look cool.
Anyhow, good work that man.Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am

mechanicals still to do:
new bottom bracket
new chain
swap cassettes about for 8 speed
sort brake pads out for carbon rims and mod them to fit better
adjust gears
tidy bar tape
target completion < 10 days!
cost so far £40.0 -
if truth be told, its a little bigger/ longer than i'm used to, but i'll test the lower stem come the time. its main job is gonna be on the turbo, but its surprising how comfortable the more old style handlebar shape actually is (ie hoods down a bit).0
