Don't the AL30's use a bitex type hubs which dies in the wet. For a longlived winter wheel hub go for one with big bearing like the Miche, Novatec A171/F172 or Shimano 105/ultegra. Any hub with poor sealing or large alloy axles will have bearings that wear out quite quickly if exposed to water. Think the Novatec F482 fine in the dry fine a race day hub, not fine a wet weather training hub.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0

Having had experience of two sets of Planet X wheels, both of which developed problems in short order, I wouldn't trust them to get me through the Summer let alone Winter.
If you want a robust, factory-built set of training wheels then I would go for something like the Mavic Aksiums at £175 from Merlin. Alternatively, you could get a set of hand-builts using one of the hubs that thecycleclinic suggests with Mavic Open Pro rims or H+ Son Archetypes if your budget stretches a little further.0 -
Mavic open pro with 105 hubs are £150 at rose bikes currently.0

having had a local wheel builder sort out a problem with a race wheel this morning (on the spot and for £10), i spoke with him about a winter set of hoops.
i've decided its the service and backup which he offers is what will keep me on the move if i'm having trouble. he can build up a set for me from about £200. he advised against buying factory mavics purely in terms of dealing with service/ repairs.0 -

If you have a good LBS use them or loose them. Good choice there.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0
