What did you learn today?

I learned that when the chain starts to slip check between the chain rings. :-)

This morning was my first malfunction, just after I'd started out found when I changed into the top two gears the chain would start slipping. Stopped and had a quick look but in my naivety thought it was the derailleur or something so just pedalled to work with my little legs going quicker than normal.

When I got to work and had another look, noticed a perfectly sized thin strip of bark had managed to get embedded between the chain rings. Sorted with my chain hook, from my multi tool. Yay! :D

I like to give people the benefit of the doubt as much as possible. Some people are just C**ts though and there is no getting away from it.

    Not you guys, natch....

A mate of mine once said he treats everyone as C**ts until they can prove otherwise. I thought that a tad harsh.

Smartarsed tossers would be fair, c**ts might be a tad harsh to describe us.
I tend to take the same view as you do, a good friend does what EC's mate does. He's rarely disappointed and occasionally pleasantly surprised. Unfortunately, as you have been, I am often disappointed.
    Anyway hope you're ok.

Is it any different to the (imo smart attitude) of cyclists considering all drivers to be intent killing when out on the bike?

yeah it is different, but kind of similar

I'd post a pic but I don't want to scare her off too soon. :?

Today I learned that if there is an odd squeak coming from the disc brakes, check that the wheel is seated properly in the forks. Release and relock the quick release lever, problem solved! :)

I learned not to leave your MTB inverted if you've washed it or it's got wet. Of you do, your BB will remain full of water and bearings seize solid. Same might be true if you hang it on the wall.

Bontrager Racelite XL bottle holders need threadlock on every bolt.

Carrying full two 600ml bottles this evening I reached for the bottle by my right buttock but it wasn't there. Ah well I thought, they don't call these things bottle launchers for nothing. I stopped to check and was surprised to find the bottle was still there, it's just it was upside down.

The bolt holding the top of the cage to the bracket had come out and so the cage had flipped round.

Still, I now completely trust the cages on these things.

Today I learned how to cycle with no hands. Did about 50% of my return commute like that (not on the roads, but on empty cycle path I hasten to add). Hadn't managed at all until today, then read somewhere is mostly about confidence, so just thought "let's just go for it" and it worked! :D
