Deda Speciale handlebars - clamping size?

Quick one...

Does anyone here own a set of these handlebars: http://www.halfords.com/cycling/cycling ... ars-silver

Depending where I look they have a 31.7mm or 26mm clamping area. I'd like to know the definitive answer, so I can purchase and also look for a compatible stem at the same time.

Cheers
Ben

The central area where the stem attaches will be the 31.7mm.

My guess is that the 26mm is the diameter of the rest of the handlebar tubing to allow you to source other devices that may need to be clamped.

    Okay, thanks.

Isn't 26mm standard width for the remainder of the bar (drops etc) though?

there are two models of speciale...

the 'standard' one with 31.7 Ø clamping area, note it's not the typical, 31.8, deda's measurements are always different* :)

    the '26' with 26 Ø clamping area

in both cases, diameter on the drops will be similar to other bars, shifters will clamp fine and bar-end plugs will fit

*also, deda usually specify width outside-outside, whereas others are typically centre-centre

    Thank you!

Interesting... so I guess I'm best off looking for a Deda stem to get the matching 31.7mm clamping area?

I presume Deda stems still measure at 1/8" at the steerer clamp?

the 0.1mm difference is not that important you can use a 31.8mm stem on a deda bar without issue.

This issue has been discussed before. Not sure if it was on this forum or another place. However, AIUI, the nominal diameter is 31.75mm. Most manufacturers call it 31.8 but Deda call it 31.7. Either way, stem are compatible.

It appears that the Speciales that Halfords have have a 26mm centre.

Well I just ordered them, having decided that they're a 31.7mm clamp area. Based on the zoom function (on the Halfords website) and information on Deda's website: http://www.dedaelementi.com/index.php?p ... 90&lang=en
    Ø Handlebar: 31,7 mm

    We'll see.

Yes, I noticed that. The description says 26mm but the picture is of a 31.7mm. However, pictures used on websites do not always match the product as they are often taken from the manufacturers website. Let us know what you get.

Agreed. That's why I am keeping this thread updated - so other folk know.

Either way, I'll buy a stem to match.

as above, 31.7/31.8 is not an issue, calling it 31.7 is just deda being deda

These arrived on Tuesday. The clamping area is 26mm.

I should highlight Halfords' excellent customer service: they contacted to let me know there would be a delay in sending them out (supplier problem). I chased up one more time (not out of impatience, just wanting an update) and by way of making up for the delay, Halfords waived the shipping fee and knocked off 25% from the list price.

They look really nice as well!
