Hi guys,

I'm looking at doing the London to Brighton Off Road ride this year on a Boardman CX Team. It's got Schwalbe Marathons on at the mo, what CX tyres would you recommend?

Anybody done it?

Cheers

Not my area of expertise but have a look at the Ritchey Excavader.

Schwalbe Smart Sams are great all rounders, tough as old boots and cheap if you go for the wire bead version - knobbly enough to cope with mud but roll quite quick.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Panaracer Cindercross would be my go-to tyre. Or maybe the schwalbe Racing Ralph, but they're very hard to get hold of. I'm currently running Maxxis Raze and they work much better than the Sams in the mud. They roll just as well on tarmac too. Sadly, like the Sams, they're sketchy when you lean into corners.

These were fitted to my CX team when I bought it, they're a bit crap and punctured easily so I wouldn't recommend them.

    Eh? They're widely available.

Performance, or Evo, both great prices.

The photos of the Performance one (which is on sale) is the old (and significantly less grippy) tread pattern. May not be representative.

Should be, but my experience about a month ago was very different - hence ending up with the Raze.
