My mate bought one of these recently... http://www.whathifi.com/bose/soundlink-mini/review I'm no audiophile but I do appreciate a good sound system but had to admit that I wouldn't feel too bad about having this type of thing as my only sound equipment if I was pushed for space or money. I'm not a big fan of Bose's 'coloured' sound but really, the quality from such a small device is quite amazing.

If they did them in a brushed finish I bet they'd sell.

The trouble with the lower end Bose stuff is that it relies on the DAC inside the iDevice.

I managed to get a B&W Zeppelin Mini for £200 as Apple had just changed from the 30 pin connection so the hi-fi store wanted rid of it. Quite a leap from the Sounddock II we had been using.

I've got one the early B&W Zeppelins. Very pleased with it, overall one of the best bits of kit I've bought.

I do love Bose gear - have a Wave thingy in the lounge, on-ear phones etc etc and the little soundlink thing is truly brilliant but went in HMV a few weeks ago and they had an alarm clock/radio/ipod dock for lightning connection on sale for like £55 and the sound quality was absolutely incredible - popped my Nano onto it for a few minutes. Decided it was ugly and walked away. Went back an hour later and they'd sold it. Gutted.

Moral of the story - strike while the iron's hot.

I have had a pretty good domestic hi fi for years, technics with b&w speakers with a stack of cds propping up one wall, but havent listened to it very much. With spotify premium and dab stations i have access to pretty much everything i have ever collected plus ziliions more and can download to my device and listen off line if i want. I have been using a pair of sennheiser ear buds which are also pretty amazing but wanted something for external listening and the soundlink mini has been abolutely perfect for that. Although it has a very pronounced bass astonishing for something so tiny, its picking up subleties in the music that i never knew existed. Obviously its only as good as the source but but the apple sound chip seems to be pretty good and the two seem to work well together. And is entirely portable. Bath, garden, beach, holiday etc all possible. Has also been on cycling holidays with me in my rucksack. Well satisfied and still amazed how a device that small can deliver a sound like that...
