Lots of journalists on twitter at the tour seem to think this is normal result for a crash  nobody believes this reflects negatively on Specialised in anyway.
Makes me very nervous about carbon as I weigh 85 kg and have been known to chuck it about a bit.0 -

Didn't they say this bike wasn't crashed but fell off the team car?"It never gets easier, you just go faster"0 -
Clearly not the bike Bertie crashed on - it is almost spotless. You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.0 -

Daniel Friebe confirms the broken bike was a spare that fell from the roof.
Also, Jurgen Van den Broeck says it was AC's own fault for being reckless while decending.

The official story is that it was on the roof of the Saxo support car and they clipped part of a Belkin car as they sped past. As long as you're a bit lighter than a support car, you'll probably be fine... Unless you ride into a car at that sort of speed, but in that situation steel isn't exactly happy either.0 -

Also, the widest point of team cars is not the bikes on the roof. I can't see how two teams cars could tangle in a way that results in the damage pictured.0 -

Check some of the images of team cars on Google images - the bikes can certainly extend outwards past the side of the car. If it were a problem with Specialized's bike, why would Bianchi sponsored Belkin have any interest in backing the story up?
I'm puzzled by the Roche thing too, but did Roche swap for a generic 'team' spare knowing that his own was better set up for Contador? He was certainly one of the riders pacing Contador back up, so can't have gone too far down the road.0 -

Is it "normal" for spare bikes to already have a race number on?...thats Contadors number isn't it on the broken bike, and looking at other footage i can't find any other spare bikes with race numbers on already0

This is a bigger conspiracy than first thought then. What we're saying this is not Bertie's bike at all just some random Specialised S-works that looks very like Bertie's bike. and this bike had skidded 100 metres..... jeez...
so someone might have given this a wash 'n' polish so it looked better on TV.
But it's completely fooked there's no way round it...
and who is that chef that's bending over in the background?0 -

I thought it was a crash test dummy, which may make more sense!.
Spesh must be loving all this speculation going on especially after the recall on the SL4 due to some dodgy forks.Little boy to Obama: "My Dad says that you read all our emails"

The thing is and fair do's to Specialised- what bike wouldn't completely snap in half in the circumstances?
You know.. come on...
Is it now that the claim is that the Belkin Team car ran over the bike that fell off the Saxo car and this isn't Bertie's bike at all.
This is what the Dutch lady (is it a lady) is saying - "You van runoven a bike you herde gerde fools" and why is there such a massive thumb print on this picture!!!
Someone please learn to use a camera0 -
Bit of super glue and bodge tape and it'll do a trip. You might have to close your eyes and pray a bit more on the down hill, though."The Prince of Wales is now the King of France" - Calton Kirby0 -
It's obviously called damage limitation from a brand that is scared and has some serious work to do. Good, don't like Specialized at all because of their legal shenanigans. With a bit of luck they will suffer like they make smaller competitors suffer. Tw@ts.0

Saw the pic yesterday. Sort of hard to miss really. Noticed the top tube break near the seat tube. Hadn't noticed the glaringly obvious break in the downtube. :oops:0

^ Who's Miss Really? Is she the lady in the cream/white trousers? Why has Bertie got such a big head? It still doesn't add up 100m of skids... gloomy day... cycle as clean as a whistle.
Hmm and the woman who we now believe to be a woman and of Dutch origin or connection... does she have closely kitted hair or is that a balaclava?0 -
She is probably disguised because someone may recognise her from swinging in the windows of Amsterdam.seanoconn - gruagach craic!0
