Hi,

Family holiday coming up; we're staying at Beadnell on the Northumbria coast. Anyone got any good routes fairly local to there ... must be some good stuff in the Cheviots? Interested in good singletrack, hard climbs, techy descents, woodland meanders etc, riding time 2-4 hours tops.

We might pop across to Kielder whilst there ... (I've never been - is it worth it, and how do the trails compare to Wales / Southern Scotland, eg CyB / Penmachno / Dalbeatie?) ... but looking for stuff local to where we're staying primarily.

Cheers

  • Head over to Thrunton Woods. No official routes but it you have a look on Strava you will find loads of trails, or just set off from the car park and look for tyre marks.

    Boggy in the wet though....

By Northumbria to you mean the coast from the Humber to the Forth plus the Fylde coast?

    Or do you mean Northumberland?

If you meant the latter (I think you did) then try Thrunton, as Dave says a bit hidden but obvious from the car park, just follow your nose.

Also lots of good natural XC round Wooler/Rothbury.

Kielder is good. Long and can get exposed but good still.
Not too far from Glentress either ;)
