SPD Shoes

My shoes have had it.

Old shoes were shimano xc type shoes (you know the velcro strap ones). Torn between this type again and the more trainer type style shoe if you know what I mean. If the latter, don't want them to heavy as I know a lot of the fiveten stuff is aimed more at the downhill riders.

Use is casual riding on natural trails, trail centers etc. No downhill or racing.

Budget - flexible, I guess £50-£100. Prefer the lower end but will pay for something if really worth it.

I guess what I'm asking is these

or something like these Fivetens (picked these as they are meant to be quite light, but the aethetics still leave something to be desired and they are very expensive

or maybe these fugley buggers (what is the weight of these like?)

Any other suggestions?

Bought a pair of AM45s to replace my old MP66s and I liked them so much I got the MP66s fixed at the cobblers and am still wearing them.

The AM45s are even heavier than the MP66s (700g each IIRC inc cleats) and combined with my size 46 feet they were just too big too massive and too heavy they felt like deep sea diving boots.

Am still on the lookout for a replacement maybe the new SH-M200s will be suitable.

Oh, that's bad news but good info.

I like the look of those SH-M200's, but look like they will be expensive (not available yet?)

The M200s look even more like orthopaedic boots than the previous offerings!

If you want light then none of those are going to be the best bet. I'm a big fan of Specialized shoes - the BG Sport or Comp is a decent shoe. Unless you want to wear them to walk around town or whatever (in which case why care about weight) they'll be reet.

Or if you're a size 44 I've just stuck some S-Works ones on eBay, only wore them for about a year, kept them "as spares", which of course means they've sat on the shoe rack untouched!

I'm by no means a weight wheenie and weight isn't the primary concern. With that said, I didn't want very heavy DH shoes which I've heard can be a bit too heavy for everyday riding.

    Bigger than a 44 unfortunately

Any more thoughts on SPD shoes for general trail riding? Ideally lighter than AM45's and the DH specific shoes?

Take a look at what the enduro riders are wearing
Their shoes will be lighter than DH shoes

just to even things up, I've had am45's for about 3 years and love them. I don't find them too heavy, they're pretty waterproof and resilient as hell

The Specialized BG shoes are great.

They do higher version, but these are ideal.

Thanks. Given the lack of 'trainer' style options I suspect I'll be going down this style route again. How do they size up. My Shimanos are a size larger than my normal shoe size and are still too snug if I wear my Woollie Boollies.
