Higher handlebars?

Sorry if this is a stupid question but my handlebars are a touch too low and can't be raised.

Do the handlebars with bent centre section help to raise them slightly?

Yes... if you no more options to swap spacer on your stem then a riser bar is the next thing to try. You can also get stems with different levels of rise. What do you have at the moment?

I have a carrera subway with the cartridge type headset although the headset is currently being replaced at the bike shop whilst it's in for a gear service.

Dependant on the headset he is replacing it with I may be able to add more, but won't be sure until I collect it. If it's no higher I intended on buying higher rise bars

Headset will make no difference - the steerer tube is still going to be the same length.

In that case I'm assuming I'd better get some handlebars ordered

Funn Full On riser bars are a good cheap option if you are on a budget, varying levels of widths and rise - and you can always trim them if they are too wide.

Check the width... your Subway will likely have fairly narrow bars (660?) while those Funn bars start at 750mm. You might be better off with something like this for £10.

EDIT: and check the stem - is it your typical MTB OS 31.8mm clamp size, or is it a 25.4mm ... I see CarbonCycles do a 50mm rise in both for under £!5.

Il be honest I haven't as clue either on what that means nor how to check.

Sorry for coming across as an idiot but it's like starting Spanish lessons and being dumped in Spain after a week lol

    No entiendo MTB?

The stem clamps vertically to the steerer (coming from the top of the fork) at one end and horizontally to the handlebar at the other. Handlebars come in different diameters at the centre where the stem clamps them, so you need to buy a new handlebar that is the same size at this point as your old one so that it fits in the stem.

Handlebars come in different widths, from around 560mm to 800mm - and it makes a BIG difference. You said you were looking for a higher bar, so you want a bar with a decent rise - so 30mm or even 50mm.

Most MTB Bars have a 31.8mm diameter in the centre where the stem clamps onto them. You need to check yours as you have a commuter bike... some of them and some cheaper MTBs use a 25.4mm clamp size.

From what I can see my bike has the 25.4mm handlebar size. Does that limit my choice? The one suggested has gone up in price since it was posted also

I'd look on ebay personally, as you aren't going to be 100% sure what will suite until you try it it will get expensive buying new.
