Worth the watching - happy winner!

Nibali? Difficult to hold the lead from here, yet he still looks the best to me.

Really pleased for Kadri, one of my favourite riders. Decent day for the French all round. Anyone know if Talansky's crash was in the last 3km? Think he took G down so hoping it was. Also, which time do they get in that situation when the group they were with gets split all over the place?

Not on a hilly stage like today. He'll lose his full 2'20 to Bert.

Porte lost ground as Valverde let a gap go. Pretty much held the distance.

Can we put the Porte has no form debates to bed now? Chuffed for the wee pet.

Doesn't matter. That rule doesn't apply to uphill finishes.

Thought last 3km rule only applied to flat stages?

I blame King Kelly, he was talking about whether it was within 3km.

Great finishing 30kms spoiled by French coverage (understandably) of French riders.
Hate it when the breakaway gets in the way of the GC battle.
    Great ride by Kadri, though.

Astana looked frail, in the end, Nibali looked pale.
Two more weeks of getting attacked?
    Porte podium possibility confirmed.

Panache man Piti almost falls at the first hurdle.
Just hasn't got what it takes to be a great GC champion.

    Talansky......

Don't be silly. The wee man could be in yellow and there'd still be people carping.

    Ooops Pitbull with a problem.

G down as well - first time this tour.

Was it G? I thought it was Kiry? Number 3 is Kiry no?

Think it was 8 which is G.

Yes. I'm assuming the bad weather has influenced his decision to go with the same trousers as yesterday.

Lets hope for some sun tomorrow to hopefully bring out the bright colours...

Bardet vs. Pinot for white jersey?

hmm, perhaps drawing too many conclusions from pretty short punchy climbs. Monday should tell more

Looks like it. Didn't realise that the second ag2r rider over the line was jcp, though I'm sure as you say it'll be different on a full on mountain stage.

Peraud would almost certainly be in 4th now if he hadn't had that mechanical on stage 5 when in the Talansky group and given his time trialling ability would be a genuine threat for the podium. The guy has had zero luck in this race recently. Still, a good day for AG2R generally today. :)

Bertie isn't strong enough. Big psychological win for Nibs

Nibali threw him a psychological life line right at the end there.

It's still too early to say, we need to see them on a stage with more climbing before deciding who is better. I was expecting more fireworks from Contador, but it's foolish to say that Bertie isn't strong enough. He took 3 seconds out of Nibs in less than 50m. Tomorrow should be more indicative.

The way Saxo was riding suggested Contador wasn't strong enough to do what he wanted and had planned to do. Of course that doesn't mean he's not strong enough over three weeks, but those 3 seconds won't worry Nibali at all. Tomorrow won't indicate much at all. Monday might.

Yup. I'm fairly confident that he would have scoreboard a podium finish last year had he stayed healthy. Got the impression he was quietly confident of winning that TT before he came a cropper.

That's what I thought too. A few people have been saying Contador doesn't look as strong as he did in the Dauphine.

To be fair on Bert, he did say before the stage that he didn't expect anything on this stage and Monday is where it's at.

Tomorrow, the final climb is 40kms from the finish.

    Contador
"I wanted to see how Nibali was doing and I was surprised he kept so close. I wasn't sure whether there was anyone ahead of me, that's why I moved. I saw there was someone ahead of me and then I decided to take a little bit of time off Nibali. I'm happy. The team was extraordinary and the legs responded well. We'll have to see day by day. Nibali is a great rider like all the great riders ahead of me. I must keep hoping and try to take time with each stage."
