Infinito CV - Boom!

Well since Lars Boom rode a Bianchi Infinito CV to a great victory in yesterdays brutal cobbled TDF stage, I thought I'd post a picture of my own in celebration
The Fulcrum Racing Quattros which came with the bike are now on my winter/commuter machine and have been replaced by Racing Ones (an instant, very noticeable improvement), and the FSA compact bars have been changed to Zipp Contour SLs which I find a lot more comfortable, especially with the Specialized Bar Phat gel. Spent last week riding the bike in the Alps, ticking off lots of big cols within striking distance of Annecy, and it was simply fantastic . The bike is now pretty well perfect for me, although I am going to try the new 28mm Conti GP 4000s tyres soon.
And yes, still have to chop off the last cm of steerer above the stem....

Some of the roads round me are in a very poor state and the frame is build to accommodate up to 30mm tyres so I am curious to try them. Hopefully better ride, and surprisingly if a recent test in a German magazine is to be believed, lower rolling resistance too: http://www.conti-tyres.co.uk/conticycle ... e_2014.pdf0

I wouldn't go up to 30mm on Fulcrum rims. As far as I'm aware Fulcrum state that 28mm is the max their rims can manage safely - the last thing you want is the tyre popping off on a descent. Also, I run 28mm Vittoria Rubino tyres on my Racing 3's for winter at about 70psi and although they're great for trashing it through the grit, rain and sleet, compared to the 23mm Veloflex Corsas on my Racing Zeros it's night and day. I’d say 25mm is the highest you should go on a stiff rim like the One/Zero.

28mm are only marginally heavier that 25s (35 grams per tyre for the Conti 4000s)- I may be wrong but I doubt very much whether the weight difference would be noticable, but I am interested to see if the ride quality improves significantly. The effect of Countervail is pretty subtle - it is vibration damping, not shock absorption after all, and some of the Scottish roads I ride are so crap they really do seem like Beligian pave at times. So, marginal increase in weight, same or better rolling resistance, better ride - seems like a no brainer really It will be a fun experiment anyway...0 -
The bike looks good. But it would look even more good if the bartap is installed the other way around. I think fitting the white side on the top and the black on the drops will make it look better look as your saddle is also white.Custom build Trek MTB
