Gladestry Audaxes

Just a shout out for some audax events running on August 16/17 from Gladestry near Kington, just inside of Wales, which I keep coming back for more of, but are apparently vastly underrated. However I am trying to publicise these so should improve the turnout.

The Elan and Ystwyth 200 on the Saturday is a pleasant scenic run out to Aberystwyth and back.

while the Tregaron Dragon on the Sunday is not for the faint hearted. Comfortably harder than pretty much any sportive in the UK, it is the hilliest UK 200km audax. This iconic route heads out to coed trallwm forest cafe which opens specially too fuel you up for devil's staircase and the mountain road to Tregaron. Roast dinner at Llansawel before returning through some of the most remote parts of wales, along some of the most scenic beautiful country lanes.

50km and 100km routes are also available. For GPS files, maps and more info including profiles please see http://www.gladestry.com/Project/AudaxRoutes/

hope to see some of you there!

Just to add to this..there is free / cheap camping at the start, nearby pub, food is being laid on post events and the organiser is even saying there is a post ride hot tub!?!

For the macho element (you know who you are) the Tregaron Dragon 200km is rated at 4800m of ascent which I believe is the most climbing in any UK Audax. I could be wrong though.

Hmm - going to have to try and swing a trip to this. Some roads I know, many I don't. 4800m of ascent in 200km is not to be taken lightly - I've only done more in similar distances in the high mountains.

It sounds like a great event but it clashes with another superb day out. I will be riding the Kidderminster Killer - a hilly ride that includes various large lumps in Shropshire. Best take my lights.

    Perhaps next year.
