Hi,

I am looking for a winter bike and am wondering if a triban 3 would be sufficient? I want to buy something second hand and reasonably cheap. £200-£300

Any ideas?

Cheers

That's my steed of choice come winter. Does the job well although upgrading the brake pads and putting larger tyres on might be an idea.

I have a Triban 3 and unfortunately the one real negative is that despite having mudguard eyelets it has very little clearance above the brakes. Therefore, even with 23mm tyres it's an incredibly tight fit to attach mudguards. Most people recommend using the Crud Roadracers MKII, which in fact are clip on guards and don't use the eyelets.

I can't see that you could use mudguards with tyres larger than 23mm.
