Ok so took the family to the le Tour and they have got the bug mainly from seeing so many people cycle along the route to find their spot. So the Mrs now gets it and is seriously thinking about a bike under her CTW and my boy wants to come out with me when i go for a run.

Now I would like to get my boy a bike to get him started he is a medium sized 10 year old.

I have no idea where to start as to what is a good entry level bike for him for coming along with me on some of our very quiet country roads. So any advice on sensible entry level budget I should be thinking about to get him interested.

He has a specialized MTB at the moment.

  • Think Cav's bike is going spare now and would fit

Have a look at BTwin Triban range at Decathlon. I was going to get one for my 10yo daughter but in the end built one up myself scouring cheap parts.

Would you mind posting or pm with his height and onside leg length? I am looking for a race bike for my 10 year old son and wondering the Troban would fit him.

Get one from the Islabike Luath range - not the cheapest option by any means but they are excellent bikes for young children. They hold their value well too for when your son grows out of it and you come to resell.

You can occasionally find them on eBay but expect to pay £200+ for a secondhand one as they are always in demand from parents who often have a cycling background.

Get him involved with the local go-ride club, if there is one near. They may have loan bikes which he can try and it will also get him riding in a controlled, safe environment..
