I rode the 50 mile version of this yesterday.

It barely gets a mention but is one of the best sportives out there in my opinion.

I agree. Did the 70 miles yesterday having done the 50 in its first year. Good routes and top class feed stations. Good atmosphere for the start and finish too.

There are plenty of good audaxes around that area - should you wish to repeat a ride over the Shropshire Hills. Here are some for starters:

    Discovering Shropshire - 200/120/80km - 25th Oct

The Kidderminster Killer and From Clee to Heaven - 200/120km - 16th Aug

If audax is too beardy / cheap / complicated you may be happy to pay £35 for the Welsh Raider sportive that is featured in this week's Comic:

A really nice route, I'll give them that, but that sounds a lot of money for a map and some direction arrows.

If you are with HPB then you could stay at Upper Norton. Whichever way you turn at the end of the lane you can treat yourself to some really fine riding. Spoilt for choice, we are around here :D

  • Thanks for the plug, Dead Sheep. The event is nearly full, so it is as popular as ever.

Simon E is correct in terms of no -waymarkers but riders with GPS can use GPX - as with most modern audaxes. I have to apologise on another front though, this audax attracts very few beards.

Good luck with your event Philip.

Perhaps I should have said "If you consider an audax to be too beardy / cheap / complicated..."

Audax, GPS, route-plotting with a map or however you approach it, these borderlands are awash with thoroughly enjoyable routes and a good number of cycle-friendly cafés and pubs. Shropshire CTC has a map/list at http://cycleshropshire.org.uk/cafe-pub-list/
