Carrera Fury

Is this a case of 6 and two 3's? Is one better than the other??
It seems a case of better fork on the Fury or better front/rear mech and crankshaft on the RR 8.1
Which should i ideally be prioritising, fork or mechs? And is there anything which stands out i should be aware of?
Intended use will be bridal paths and gentle use at trail centres.....

The Fury.......it has a very good frame.Boardman Pro Carbon (Nowt wrong with Boardman)
Boardman Team Hybrid
(I need to lose weight)0 -
Both are good - but the Rockrider has a better fork, and is lighter too.0

The RR is more an out and out XC bike, the Fury more trail orientated, your stated use is XC and gentle trail centre....kind of answers your question!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Despite the RR being the slightly better bike, i went to halfords today and did a bit of haggling and managed to get myself a Fury and the other half a Kraken for £770!! (£420 + £350) thats £130 off their in-store price and £330 off the RRP. I couldnt say no to be honest.
Thanks for your input guys.0 -
How did you manage to get the discounts?_______________

Apart from being lighter what else makes the coil spring better?
Have also come back to looking at the Fury as can get it for £440'ish - which leaves me £100 for other bits (lighter wheel set etc.)._______________

It's not just the coil spring - it's the damping, structurally stiffness and reliablity. Sure the air spring is more easily adjustable to your weight, but the Recon Silver TK is a better fork in every other area. I tested both these models for What Mountain Bike.0

How so? Geometry is the same for both although Fury has 20mm more fork travel._______________

the price on the Fury was £599 to £499, which it has been for for quite some time. However they had a 30% off marker below this. I ask the staff there what this meant as 30% off £599 clearly isnt £499.
The assistant said it must be a mistake, so i just asked him to look into it. Came back and said he could knock the 30% off the RRP. Did it on both the Fury and Kraken.
i cannot compare the Fury to anything else, but having had the Fury a couple of weeks now and taken it around the red route at Dalby Forest, i must say i am pleased with the purchase. Never had a lot of confidence in going downhill (even as a roadie) yet after a few miles i was easing/letting go of the brakes and really placing a lot of trust in the bike.0 -
