Hi,

I'm looking to get a mountain bike for cross country trails and some rougher mountain riding. I have a friend who has a Focus Thunder 3.0 2010 on sale for around £750, only been used a few times (less than 80 miles).

Can't find a bike review anywhere and was wondering if this was suitable and a good deal or if I should be looking at newer bike options, budget up to £1000.

Any help greatly appreciated. Spec below (I believe the forks have been upgraded to Fox Talas RLC 100-140mm).

Good bike for a grand. Not sure I would consider the Talas an upgrade.

Does it fit? Have you had a ride on it? Think that's your starting point to check it's the right size and you like it. You may have to rule it out straight away if it isn't the right size

    Thanks both,

Going to have a ride next week to see if it fits (we fit the same sized road bike). I was curious as to whether I'd get more for £1000 new, not sure how quick bike tech moves forwards. It sounds like its a good deal so will go for it assuming the bike fits.

    Thanks again for the help.

You can get some good deals on brand new giants from Paul's cycles, they tend to sell off previous years models at very good prices. Personally if be tempted to get new but can see merit in both
