Transporting a bike without dismantling it!

Is there any way of packing a bike for sending it by courier, WITHOUT taking it to bits first (as most of the 'bike box' videos instruct)?
I know you'd have to take off the pedals, and maybe turn the bars straight, but do you really have to take off both wheels, saddle, etc., etc?
Thanks.
(I want to send it from London to Liverpool-ish).

Usually wheels off and slam the seatpost.... leaving wheels on makes it very much larger and is likely to be outside what most couriers will take!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0
