Looking for a new bike, have been recommended this as a friend has one. Is it really 8.5kg?

That seems to be carbon bike weight, googlising it seems to have the same answer.

What's people's thoughts on them?

    By the way, that one's aluminium..

    The 2015 model year GF02 will be carbon fibre. I would wait for that, myself..

    Or even better, the 2015 SLR03.

    If you like aluminium, and I do, you could get a Canyon Ultimate AL 9.0CH for that money and that weighs 7.3Kg. Cracking bike too with ultegra groupset.
