Hi,

I have been thinking on getting a bike for a while after quitting the gym and moving to a home gym setup the cardio has suffered and I think a road bike would be a good way to try and improve my cardio as I just detest running.

Anyway a friend just bought a Carrera Virtuso which seems to get good reviews bar the tyres and at the current £297 halfords price from what they say the RRP of £600 I thought this was the bike for me.

I went down tonight and it was just typical that my local store only has the display model left and they could only find one 51cm frame on the system and it was then directing him to the 2014 model which is £400. The display model has dirty grips and a few marks here or there which I know will happen anyway but I walked away as he didn't want to offer a further discount there and then and said he would speak to his manager in the morning. So they lost the sale of 2 bikes tonight as I was buying the other half one. The urgency is if I want to secure that bike I will have to call first thing and reserve before someone else jumps in

I then stumbled on this site after looking at the carerra zelos 2014 which they are selling for 270 just now although its not as good a spec I actaully preferred the colours.

So now to the experts, I have £300 to spend on a bike for me and less if possible for her  and wondered what to go for? I realise at this budget im not going to get a range topper but we have to start somewhere

Thanks for any replys

a decathlon triban 3 at 299.99 may be better for you (out of stock online, but call the stores).

Generally respected as a better bicycle in all ways.

Or this for 380 is very good

Thanks for the quick replys, I think it has to be brand new for me (I know there is no real point) but I just want to know the history of the bike and if anything goes wrong I know its me thats done it.

Im trying to stick to the £300 mark and I did notice the Triban came up in another thread - I also see its out of stock :(

Ok so I read this and now I want it

What can I get her from the same store - I really don't want to go that much but she will need to keep up

Any chance of a discount if I buy 2 do you think

    Edit: http://www.decathlon.co.uk/triban-3-roa ... 39800.html

There doesnt seem to be much in the one at £380 and the above bar the carbon forks? From reading on here I assume they will be entry level forks so not necessarily the greatest?

Ideally i want to buy the 2 bikes from the same shop but they done appear to have a womans variations (thats cheaper)
