I hate it. Every year, the 37 people in Britain who actually play tennis get wall-to-wall coverage of their crappy, dull sport for TWO WHOLE WEEKS.
And we football fans, who support our teams and either PLAY or GO TO GAMES, and who outnumber tennis-pennises by about 20,00-to-1 are treated to a barrage of criticism for "all the football" due to the World Cup. Which is every four years.
And someone please explain to me why women get the same money for only playing an absolute maximum of 3 sets???? Equal pay for equal work, surely??
Hope it fcuking rains.

Wimbledon is excellent. As is The Open.
Both these majors in tennis and golf are the must win titles in the sports due to their prestige and history and have produced some of the most memorable sporting achievements in history.

There are 20,000 tennis courts in the UK so those 37 people have a lot of choice lol.
You don't exactly get tennis hooligans do you!0 -
This is my favourite time of year, 2 weeks of Wimbledon shortly followed by 3 weeks of the T of F Oh, and I dont mind the footie either.0

We could solve the housing crisis by using that land more effectively

I concur. Mind you the WC is boring now too, I have no interest in it whatsoever. Compared to 1990 when I cried. Oh how football has lost its lustre.0

What happens to the Wombles when the tennis is on? Do they get re-homed?I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

Football is a thugs game, terrible role models, corruption at all levels and we are rubbish at it, these so called stars of English footie like Gerrard and Rooney only look good because of the star foreign players around them, put them on a pitch with other English idiots and they look like the pub players they really are, the sooner it all gets put on pay only TV the better.
You sound like you work for the UCI "why should those pesky girls get the same as the pro mens?"0 -
Wimbledon does wind me up a bit as I only know one person with an active interest in tennis. However, I'm genuinely surprised to see someone support their argument against tennis with a comparison to football coverage. Football coverage is obscenely OTT. About 10 years ago I was exposed to Sky Sports News being on in the background throughout the working day for a couple of weeks during the off season. Despite my knowing an array of other world class sporting events were happening, SSN still dedicated around 70% of its coverage to football. If that's not disproportionate, I don't know what is.
I'm not anti football, I just think a lot of fans have no idea how much other sport they miss out on. But then again, I think it's often the tribal thing that matters more than the sport. Heck, you don't see many of them actually playing this game they bleat on about loving sooooo much.0 -
There is no other sport that the BBC think is so popular that it should be on both BBB1 and BBC2 at the same time!
In past years we have even had the same match on both channels at the same time. That is just absurd.0 -

The folks at BBC have to take their holidays at some time, this is when they do it. They can put out two weeks of shite on two channels with the minimum of staff, one Sue Barker and perhaps a Claire Balding.
It Drives Me Up The Fecking Wall!! I long for the moment when Murray gets knocked out.
The older I get, the better I was.0 -
My response is B£$%^& football.
We now get wall to wall football 12 months of the year. When I was growing up from May until August Football disappeared apart from World cup years now you are drowned in coverage even in the off season. X team is buying Y player, Player A has been seen out with Player B's wife,etc..
With the 'wealth' of sports channels we are seeing less of the' 'minority' sports on terrestrial channels than we did in the sixties and seventies. Badminton one of the most popular participation sports in the country, greater than football, now only gets limited coverage at Olympics and Commonwealths compared to getting coverage of the all England Tournament which we used to do. As a kid I can remember significant chunks of Grandstand being dedicated to that event when it was on. Last year it was a half hour highlight programme at 23:00 mid week after the event was over.0 -
Plus one... Football sucks. Or rather the systems and the infrastrure and the media attitude and the over paid mercenary prima donnas do.
Wimbledon is wonderful. Missus and i love it to bits. Just listening to judy murray on desert island discs. Inspiring. Some of you guys have no soul. Your loss...0 -
I don't really like tennis and even more hate that andy Murray, so long as he doesn't win,0

The World Cup is next year. I'm not sure what all those segregated hooligans chanting at amateur dramatists was all about this summer. Seemed to be keeping the riot police occupied for a while.
Anyone for Pimm's?0 -
Tennis is awesome. I love playing and watching. Wimbledon is an institution of British summertime.tick - tick - tick0

If tennis/football/darts etc etc offend you so much then find something else to do instead of watching TV.
It's not that f***ing hard, like the "I'm being bullied on facebook" idiots... TURN THE F***ING THING OFF THEN!Advocate of disc brakes.0 -
Ah the happy memories of my childhood. Coming home from school, the curtains were drawn and Mum was sat on the sofa, watching Wimbledon. Occasionally she'd emerge to engage us in conversation about it, and towards the end of the second week she'd start telling us how nice* it would be if we had tennis lessons. Possibly a week after it was all over she'd have forgotten who won.
*This is the version of 'nice' that isn't actually pleasant at all. Like playing 'nice' games instead of getting muddy, it just referred to things that only she wanted.Specialized Roubaix Elite 2015

Funny how very little other tennis is televised on UK terrestrial TV. It's as if Tennis happens once a year - like for some the only cycling event is the Tdf. How many times have you been asked by a non-cyclist in their jokey fashion "Training for the Tour De France?". That's our navel gazing mentality both intrinsic and institutionalised.seanoconn - gruagach craic!0

Tennis is a terrible sport to watch and has stolen far too many good bits of cycling coverages on Eurosport over the years for my liking.
"We'll move over to the exciting last 20km of the stage shortly after Xuin Fao Me has beaten Judlana Schetkovitchivitchvitch in this great 2nd round of Poznan Open"..0 -

Exactly this. I've lost count of the number of times I've settled down to watch a stage, only to find the fucking tennis is messing with the scheduling.
Tennis fans = Frumpy, beige, middle-aged, Daily Mail-reading, Tate-visiting, Cliff Richard-liking, Henman-worshipping personality vacuums

To be fair this can be leveled at other sports as well, golf for example, how much is televised here apart from the Masters?"Arran, you are like the Tony Benn of smut. You have never diluted your depravity and always stand by your beliefs. You have my respect sir and your wife my pity"

I ride past a couple of tennis courts on my way to work, they only seem to be in use for the same two weeks of the year. It's like the country forgets tennis even exists for 5 weeks of the year.0

Only if he's getting beat and we can see coverage of grumpy fans. I find tennis incredibly dull and I'm someone who follows test cricket, that's how bad tennis is.0 -
Winning by two sets at the moment... That looks as though he will be given prime time again on monday!!
Love test cricket too. The end of the last two tests against SL were brilliant. Bring on India0 -

Couldn't agree more, can't stand it. I hate the way royalty, 'slebs' and their ilk flock to it, like flies round sh!t.
You let yourself down though by comparing it to football, as much as I like football it is very flawed...don't need to compare tennis to any other sport, it's crapiness speaks for itself"That's it! You people have stood in my way long enough. I'm going to clown college! " - Homer0 -
