Hi everyone, new to the forum and I'm looking to invest in a new bit of kit. Basically after smooshing my leg in a motorbike accident I decided to take up road cycling and bought a cheap halfords bike I enjoyed riding about but then decided to enter the virgin cyclone challenge and now I'm addicted so I need to upgrade my noisy sticky shifting halfords special. Everywhere seems to suggest buy a bike with a good frame if you're planning on future upgrades, but it's so hard to tell what to get. A couple I've got my eye on are the CAAD8 Tiagra and the Allez Elite c2 any other suggestions or advice anyone?

Wait a few weeks before you buy. The 2015 bikes come out around august time, so there will be some good deals on last years models.0

Plenty of choice about - have a look at Planet X, Dolan and Ribble - maybe Merlin or CRC. Paul's cycles also. Should be able to get alu or even carbon with 105 for not much more than £800.0

I got a Giant Defy 2 which has been a good bike for the ~2yrs I've owned it -part of the reason for that was because most reviews said it was a good frame worthy of upgrading, so could work. My mate just bought a Trek Domane which looks nice as well.
I'm aware that's just more options...0 -
I'd be looking at Planet X, Ribble or Merlin Cycles I think. Boardman is a popular choice & Vitus look good for the cash. Eastway make some interesting alu bikes too I reckon too. Leave some cash for equipment & clothing. Also think if you want a bike that can take full mudguards for winter - always good to have as an option.'Happiness serves hardly any other purpose than to make unhappiness possible' Marcel Proust.0
