Weighed my Saracen tonight - 15.3kg's!
Am in need of a lighter better equipped bike - Suntour sprung forks shake & rattle on rough stuff and are a bit bouncy on accents.
Oh and some decent rubber would be nice too - is there a good allrounder for dry/gravel/wet/mud?
Budget will be upto £600.
So far thinking:
Rockrider 8.1
Calibre Point 50
Carrera Fury
Voodoo Hoodoo
Any others that I should consider.
Like the idea of remote lock-out for the forks - can these be retrofitted?
I read the Rockrider review on the main site for the 2010 version - was it really only 12kg's?
Is there a more upto date review of it?
Thanks
Chris

£600 is a healthy old chunk to have in the 2nd hand market. Take a look at what you could get in the for sale section.0

Why do you need a lighter bike? Sounds like you need better forks and tyres, but they're not inherently lighter.0

I did think about that - but then by the time I've changed forks, ditched the V brakes for disc (and changed wheels to suit) and upgraded the Shimano Altus stuff to something half decent I could have bought a new bike for the same (or less) money._______________

Be sure you know the condition it was weighed in, pedals can easily add 300-450g for example and it may have been on control tyres, although given the spec circa 12-12.5Kg would be about right.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
A bit more of a google shows as 12.8kgs on the B'twin site:

How good are the forks?_______________

Forks are as good as they get for this cash.0

Thanks for the reply.
Rockrider looks like a popular bike - most places seem to be out of the mediums._______________
