No PM yet again - how can I access them?

I see that the PM system is down yet again and I have a PM sitting in my inbox which I really need to get at but cannot see how I can do this whilst this rubbish system is failing again. Can somebody please advise me what to do. I have posted a request on the relevant thread for the OP to message me by email but this is reliant on him reading the new posts which as yet he hasn't done.
Surely it's about time this constantly failing PM system was sorted out once and for all.

If the developers knew exactly what the problem was I'm sure they would have fixed it, I doubt they're doing it for the hell of it
