Setting up Fox TALAS issues

My new bike has Fox 32 TALAS 140mm CTD forks which came uninflated. Before setting the sag to get the pressure exact I used the Fox website to suggest approximate pressure.
I put in about 170psi with the TALAS switch in the long position and without touching rebound. What I find is that when I compress the forks by pushing in the bars they'll return but about 10 - 15mm short. If I lift the bars and push the front wheel down it feels like there a little notch and then it returns to the extent of travel.
Anyone had this before? I'm a bit baffled

2014. The TALAS seems to require loads more than a float. I think it's just the front end needs to be totally unweighted for it to return to the extent of the travelWhether you're a king or a little street sweeper, sooner or later you'll dance with the reaper.
