I didnt even know about "BB30A" and indeed didnt even know what a BB30 was - never heard of it.

I just bought the bike as I liked it and it was an emergency buy as my last bike died. I just assumed a £3k bike wouldnt have such issues.

Now I am lumbered and trying to find a solution which doesnt involve never riding in the rain.

    Gutted.

May need to think about returning it, but we'll see, as I do LOVE it otherwise.

    bit dramatic
Just get the LBS to reinstall properly.
As i have already said, i have had no problems with mine.
Not everybody has the problem, so just get it sorted.

Just seen this thread, 2 years on... and I feel a bit embarrassed by my post above - yes I was a bit dramatic, but at the time I thought I'd spend £££ and got a dud!

In the end, I have ridden 2 years on it (10k ish miles on this bike) in all weathers, all year around and hosepipe cleaned with MucOff including the BB area every time, without even a hint of any BB trouble - it's been flawless.

The noise I had when I first got the bike was due to the bike shop not greasing the front drop outs, and nothing to do with the BB. Turns out they missed / incorrectly set up a few other things too (cables crossed in the down tube causing rubbing, no waterproof bung fitted where FD cable emerges, no underside BB cover fitted (leaving cables exposed under the BB), the Ultra 6800 front mech / frame support screw not present - eek!... the list goes on, despite the PDI check sheet having all these things ticked as having been done).

I really like the simplicity of my BB30A, and have just serviced it myself, stripping and replacing the bearings with no problems at all - took about 20 mins and most of that was spent cleaning. The removal / fitting took about 3 mins. Despite being 2 years old, the BB bearings were still smooth - I just thought it was time to replace them. Having the right tools helped+++ (and they aren't too cheap - maybe £100 worth in total).

I haven't done anything like your mileage on my Synapse but, like you, I have never had any problems with BB30A. Having read up on potential issues here on BR and elsewhere, I didn't let it put me off buying the bike but I was slightly concerned in case the dreaded creaking started and, indeed, sometimes I think I can hear it but it's probably just paranoia! In any event, I am glad that yours is OK after so much use and long may it continue but, just so that you know, there does seem to be a working adapter solution to enable using Shimano if it's ever needed. Another BR member, namely Bristolpete, has successfully used a C-Bear adapter - specifically this one here which he has told me works very well:

    Cannondale Synapse Carbon Ultegra
    Kinesis Racelight 4S
Specialized Allez Elite (Frame/Forks for sale)
Specialized Crosstrail Comp Disk (For sale)

Yes I followed that thread, and I'm glad to have an "escape plan" should I develop BB issues. Indeed, there are now 3 "proper" solutions out there now, in addition to the daft bung reducers/adapters (which don't really address the problem).
