Stage 3:

Valverde is racing this and should take the overall. Roche, Rogers, Coppel and Cataldo are racing but thankfully we also have Team Colombia - coming off the back of great Giro success (five riders rode the Giro) I would hope to see them shine on this hilly race. Jesper Hansen is racing for Saxo - the guy who did so well in 4 Days of D.

The race has lost a stage, this year.
    A pretty good field though.
Always great parcour and lousy coverage.
A shame, given this is the Pyrenean Tour, tour.

It better be, or we right him off for the Tour.

I've already written him off for the Tour, he won't make the podium.

4th Amstel, 1st Flèche, 2nd Liège, then not raced for best part of two months.
I have idea what that means form wise, but it is a bit weird, especially since he's not riding the two known preparation races.

It has just finished. Catching up on went went down but looks like Jesus Herrada of Movistar won ahead of Valverde.

I just think there are at least 3 better options for the GC. There's a lot of talent emerging plus Froome and Bertie.

That's the sort of riding that gets you a green jersey. Next year maybe.

IIRC Quintana didn't race at all in the same period last year?

    Might be talking b"llocks.
  • Bouhanni - still on the long list for the Tour - he's making quite a case for himself

I've just realised that the Giro red jersey is sponsored by Wall's Cornetto (or at least their Italian brand)

I like how there's races for everyone trying to gear up for the Tour.

Dauphine, Suisse for the GC boys, ZLM for the sprinters and this for the climbers

Once again Valverde conspires to lose a race. How does he do it so consistently?

The old Team Oleg 1-2. He's certainly added something to the team.
Not sure Valverde would make Contador's domestique train at this rate.

Anyone know how the race developed and Roche got away?

Sioutsou finishes in the Valverde group. He has only done half the Giro, looks good for a TdF spot.

    Kudus also in there.

Boom Tinkoff showing them how its done. 45 sec gap after 5km attack is great. Ellisonde and Kudus as FJS says right there. Tinkoff 11th and 12th too...really hope Jay makes the Tour team. Last rider 40mins back.

I don't suppose we'll see Rogers at the Tour, but he's obviously still going well after a great Giro.

Have you seen it confirmed he isn't going? As far as I am aware he is. Ditto Roche who rode the Giro.

True. If they can maintain their form they'll be a big help for Contador. Where does this leave Roche with the Vuelta though. It seemed after last years strong showing he wanted to move up to being a GT contender, but all three GTs?

I think he knows he can never win a GT or even podium. The Vuelta is going to be super hard this year, not just because of the route but due to the calibre of riders gping for the win.
