Toes + Lawnmower = Fail.

So I spent a bit of time last Friday giving the bike a clean and getting round to repairing a few punctures, with the intention of going for a blast round the local woods.

It was earlier in the day than I thought, so I decided to cut the grass whilst I had the shed open.

However, the mower got stuck on a tuft of grass. I lifted the rear end of the mower and gave it a kick. Unfortunately, I'd forgot to release my hands from the mower levers and my kick was miss-placed... sending my foot into the whirling blades of the mower.

As you can see from the pics, my toes got pretty annihilated... I ended up spending five days in hospital and had two lots of surgery to mend the mess I'd made.

Fortunately, it's not going to have any long term effects on my movement, as I ended up just losing the 'ends' off a couple of toes. I am gutted now that I'm going to miss a summer of biking though... I only got into the sport last year, and was intending to buy my first full-bouncer in the next couple of months.

Guess I'll be out the game for a bit though :(

Cheers for reading.

Tom.

I can't believe you did that, I mean I really can't......I'm paranoid about making sure the blades have stopped whenever the mower clogs up.

Isn't that supposed to be for injuries sustained in the line of duty rather than random injuries sustained while training for the Darwin Awards?

Hope it all heals up and you get on your bike again. And you learn not to do stupid things anymore :o

A workmate once chopped off four fingers in a table saw. As the maintenance engineer it was my job to strip the machine and recover one of the severed digits.
Because of the damage to one they binned it and sewed the other two back on, but not in their original positions!

    Good times :-)
