New rim brakes?

Just had a message of a mate asking about replacement rim brakes for his 10+ year old Carrera MTB, but I've got no idea when it comes to rim brakes, can anyone give me some ideas to point him in the right direction for a reasonable price please? Cheers.

There's a few good options of V-brakes here. I used the Avid Single Digit 7s on my first MTB build and they were very good for a rim brake. I preferred them over any cable discs I've ever used.
The XT one's appear to be good value for money, I've not had any personal experience with them though!0 -
Agree. Some second hand XTs or Avid Single Digits with Speed Dial levers. Look on Retrobike classifieds although cheap enough new.I don't do smileys.

I have some deore arms and LX levers on my retro-bike, most important thing for rim brakes is quality pads, levers and arms just make it feel a bit nicer.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0
