In Edinburgh, Velo Ecosse and Bicycle Works are the only two that get my custom. Generally go to the former for parts etc and the later for servicing/repairs (at very reasonable prices).

That or they just completely ignore 2 potential customers and chose to stare at and talk about a protein bar with 2 other staff and thus losing a sale of a substantial sum to another shop in the process . Good work , they sure know their stuff.
The young lad who works in there is very helpful , shame he wasn't there that day rather than the others .
Its a pity as its local to me and as you say its well stocked with a good range of bikes and kit . Now after that experience I just use it to browse and shop elsewhere

Shorter Rochford in Potters Bar is hard to beat. Great service, knowledgable and always time for a good chat and a bit of banter either with the staff or other customers. All in all a pleasant experience every visit.

Mike's Bikes in Aviemore, top place run by top folk :-) They carry a surprisingly good stock of parts too, very handy if you're up here on LEJOG and need something.

All of the LBS in Aviemore are good but only Mike does road bikes in any volume.

Our of curiosity, did you ask for some help or just decide that they didn't want to help you?

Edinburgh Bike co-op in Newcastle, Steels in Newcastle. I've moved 300 miles away now and nothing local compares to the friendliness and service at those two. I recently bought a new bike from EBC because I trusted their e-mail and phone advice more than the advice I got local to me.
  • If I'm over Newcastle way it's got to be Steels. However local to me is Cycle Art and the new Giant Newcastle store. Both excellent - if a little expensive - but really good customer service.

Cycle Art's Cervelo wall is something to behold - stunning.

Sett Valley Cycles in New Mills (Derbyshire) is great.
I was also really impressed with the emergency assistance from Hargroves in Winchester.

Fantastic LBS. Friendly and welcoming. Stuart will take time to talk you through any problems with your steed ( road or MTB ) even with complete mechanical newbies like me :-)

They weren't so great the other week when they locked the door in my face! (Half day closing I guess?) .... So the nice bike in the window stopped there!
Still thinking of something clever to say!

Sigma Sports in Kingston. I've always found them to be helpful and honest.

I once stripped a crank arm thread on the way to work and they re-threaded it for me and refitted the pedal gratis.

Neil's Wheels of Molesey and Kingston cater for a completely different market but I get them to do all my mechanicals and pick up odds and sods from them. Always very friendly.

Sigma Sports sometimes gets a bad press, but my experiences of them have always been positive.

Must put a vote in for primera sports is Bournemouth. Really great service and advice, had a bike fit there on Thursday and was the best most thorough I've ever had. Really excellent. The guys there are obviously we'll into their jobs, but what I like was that they weren't transfixed with the bands they sell, very open minded and honest. Really great! Think they might have got my permanent custom :-)

^lol^ Primera Sports ~ My not so local LBS, purchased my last bike from them and considering the next bike from them as well, great service from Lewis and a six hour round trip for me to get there.

Amazing service from Neil at Forza Cycles in Llantwit Major who is also a Campag ProShop.

While out yesterday morning, suffered a problem with the rear derailleur, insofar as it had lost tension and would not take up the slack in the chain. Popped into Rugeley Bicycle Repairs who removed the mech, cleaned it in a parts washer, replaced it and indexed the gears while I waited. I was soon back on the road.
When I asked how much I owed, the owner was almost embarrassed to ask for a tenner.
Tbh I didn't even know the shop was there until I had to Google bike repairs when stood at the side of the road.
    Brilliant service.
