edited March 2016 in Your road bikes
Just got myself a bargain titanium road frame from a Planet X clearance sale so, using parts I have knocking around I am going to build myself a nice comfy titanium bike. Most parts are new or nearly new, I only needed to buy a few bits to complete the build. Keeping everything black with the odd touch of gold so the bike will hopefully look subtle and classy. I have put the prices next to the components below. As you can see , I have scored some awesome bargains mostly off eBay. Total cost with everything included comes to less than £1420 !!!!!!!!

Was that frame a one-off? Seems very cheap for a new frame!

Looks like it was a sample, was advertised as having a tight bb30 bottom bracket, hence the very low price, but I am using a converter sleeve so it is not an issue. Absolute bargain price and perfectly sized for me.

Looking forward to this one Pastey. Picked myself up one of the SAB Alu/Carbon frames for £100 to build up. Won't be as nice as your Ti one but good for a winter trainer.

I also picked up a Sab frame, a Sab Lampedusa full carbon frame. They were selling the frameand fork for £499 but I managed to get the frame only for £99 posted !!! Absolutely stunning frame that weighs in at a fraction over a kilo, still pondering whether to build it up as I have too many bikes at the moment.

Bargain. Did you haggle with them or just the last clearance frame like mine was? Wanted one of the Classico ones but happy with what I got. A mate built up a Classico in orange (got the frame for £60!) and it looks great considering the whole build cost him £400.

It was on their eBay site, also manged to source a new tapered fork for £59. The Sab frame is actually 250 grams lighter than my Time Speeder S frame.

Here is a quick mock up of the bike, just waiting on the Ti stem and a few finishing bits.

Here she is all finished. Changed the wheels to a set of FFWD F4r's. Had quick go in the street and the bike feels awesome and fits nice too, will report back after a proper ride but first impressions are good.

Cheers for the comments, made a couple of small changes since the pics. I have had to change the 100mm Ti stem to a 110mm, gutted as the stem is stunning and superlight but the Pro Vibe Carbon is a not too shabby replacement, bit heavier but lots stiffer. Also removed the Conti 4000s tyres as they were old and a bit beat up so I have fitted a pair of silver striped Schwalbe Ultremo ZX's which will stay in place until I convert the wheels to tubeless, just waiting on long ust valve stems, then I will fit a pair of Tubeless Ultremo's. Also swapping the Bebop pedals for Speedplay X1 Ti pedals then I have Speedplays on all my bikes so no messing about with shoes. Only done 10 miles on the bike as of yet but I like it, nice and comfy but goes when I put the power down. Also added a couple of Ti bottle cages and a cnc'd Garmin mount.

  • Looks great with those FFWD wheels! What size inner ring are you running there, looks tiny?

The outer ring is a 52 and the inner is a 33 making a few ratios unusable but I am either going very fast or struggling up hills. To be honest it only makes the smallest 3 sprockets unusable when in the inner and I only ever drop to the inner if I am climbing so it is no problem. Got a mate trying to buy the FFWD's off me, he's offered me nearly double what I paid for them but if I'm honest I love the wheels so I may have to disappoint him.

  • Great looking bike

How does this ride compared to a carbon bike?

A while since I updated the TI. Changed the forks for a set of 3T Rigida Pro's. Fast Forwards made way for a set of Mavic Ksyrium SR's, I also have a set of carbon clinchers off a 13 Intuition Gamma which really compliment the bike and use on flatter runs. Saddle is now a Fizik Antares and the chainset is a Sram S950 with Dual Oval rings. Brake calipers are Dura-Ace and I had to change the bar tape due to wear. Still loving this bike :D

Got a good price on a pair of Veloflex Master 25mm tyres and thought I would try them out on the Ti. Hope they ride as good as they look.
