How long and best route from the station at one end to the station at the other? Got to be quicker and more pleasant by bike than by Tube.

Would this involve joining the Tour d'Embankment every day???

It's just a hill. Get over it.

5 miles...I can't see an "obvious" route that's nice for a cyclist. You will need to cross the Thames at some point which buggers any direct route.

Why? Surely you just scooch across the bridge?

I ride Marylebone to Cannon St every day with the following route, amended to go over London Bridge - be careful at the monument junction at the N end of the bridge

Know it well, right by my office. Always a tricky one to get across in one piece.

On second thoughts might be wiser to go over Southwark Bridge

the rest of the route is fairly straightforward

I cycle Marylebone to Holborn. My route is a variation on el_presidente's in that from Marylebone, I cross the A41 on to Upper Montague Street, on to Crawford Street, Paddington Street, Weymouth Street, Great Portland Street, Maple Street, University Street, Huntley Street, Torrington Place, Malet Street, Montague Place, Montague Street, Great Russell Street. The route back is largely similar with variations for the one way streets. Both routes are signposted with cycle route signs.

I prefer it as it's a far quieter route with no buses or lorries and some cycle lanes (generally with few people on them).

Thanks all - like the sound of Sashmo's route, el_presidente goes along the Euston/Marylebone Rd which I know only too well as being a mobile zoo!!!!!!
