HI all,

Couple of questions in regards to compatibility for my current road parts and moving them over to cyclocross frame.

I have a Fulcram racing torq r crankset (compact 50/34) and looking to use it for my cyclocross build, i know gearing is road specific but wondering if it possible to keep crankset and maybe change the chainrings to make cyclocross specific instead?

ie could i change outer chainring to something different but keep inner ect.

Other than that i think im good on all the other parts ie dura ace shifters(7900) and mechs ect, brakes im getting canti ones instead of my current dura ace 7900s(will be selling them soon so watch out lol).

any help be great guys and looking forward to spending less time with loved ones during this difficult period.

No probs with the crankset - simply fit a 46 outer ring and see how you get on, if it's muddy you'll be glad to keep the 34.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • cheers fella.

Any good recommendations for a 46 chainring that would work nicely with my racing torq?

Is there any reason you can't run 50 with CX? Sure it makes sense to change it, but if the OP is wanting to keep costs down?

My current outer chainring is kaput:( thought it was ok but found it has broken tooth.
So since im getting new outer thought id replace with a more sensible gearing, and hear that a 46T with my current 34 compact and 10-28 cassette be best bet.

Just hope my new chainring outer is compatible as its a bcm 110 and i know fulcram cranksets are sometimes pain to replace.

Unless you're riding summer CX on dry hard pack, a 50 chainring won't see much use IME - a bigger chainring difference also means shifts are slower plus you're more likely to unship the chain.

Keep the 50/34 until you've done a few races. I find a single chainring - 36T or 38T - with a chain catcher more reliable.
