Removing front forks

I'm in the process of doing my first bike build, and am using the Rockshox Revelations from my old bike. I've removed the stem, spacers, brake mount, cable ties etc, and am just left with the forks and the headset. However, they will not budge at all. I've looked at videos online and they either seem to just fall out, or have a washer with a gap in that needs to be released.
I can't see anything like that on mine (Hope), so is it a case of doing a Jeremy Clarkson and just hitting the steerer with a mallet until it eventually comes out? I ask because (a) I don't want to break anything, and (b) I don't presently own a hammer/mallet!
Cheers

Ok, so this is where I'm at currently. I have a feeling that the black metal bits are supposed to come off to reveal the washer? It's just I've tried to remove them, but they won't budge either!

Bounce the bike on the front wheel to shift everything upwards a bit - should loosen enough to then move.I don't do smileys.
