hi,

I was just indexing gears to find that i must have threaded the barrel adjuster and the thread it goes into on the rear mech. It only goes about 5 turns in and its making it impossible to index gears. Do i need to buy new mech? 105 from wiggle is £28 which is what is already on there or is there a way around it ?

If i bought rear mech would it come with new barrel adjuster?

cheers

Tom

Try another adjuster or bolt/screw first to see if it works. If not it's very easy to tap a new thread in.
You can get taps on ebay. Here is a link on you tube how to use a tap https://www.youtube.com/results?search_ ... ew+threads
Its really easy and its not at all expensive.
You can also find barrel adjusters on ebay as well or just do a google .

You could fit an in line adjuster for less than a new mech.

Have you got a barrel adjuster on the down tube braze-on you could use or fit?

I had one of them red bikes but I don't any more. Sad face.

Sounds to me as though either the thread on the screw is dirty or the thread in the mech is dirty. If you had stripped the thread the adjuster wouldn't stop turning.

Take the cable out and the adjuster off and give it all a thorough clean with an old toothbrush and some oil.
